Jessie

We finished our lunch and were on our way back to class, Emma was wearing heels so she a was following me like a little puppet.

I was wearing my favorite pair of trainers, not because I'm not fashionable, but because I'm better in fashion when I want to wear clothes I'm comfortable with.

Emma ran in order to catch up to me, then we walked side by side.

What I like about Louisville is that; it's my hometown, my friends all live here, and my father also lives here.

I was only seven when my mother passed away, my father became my everything, he was my friend, my father, my mother, my brother, and literally my everything. That’s why when I was in high school I decided that I want to stay in my city, so I chose University of Louisville so stay by my father's side.

I had always wanted to be an author, so I just chose (English literature) and that was all, I'm currently very happy with my choice, the only thing I'm not happy about is my love life, Rachel and Emma are both single as well, whenever I confront them they tease me and tell me I'm stupid to think we all must find love, because some people just won't.

The idea of not finding love is very scary for me, so I'll just stop right here.

I stared at Emma, she's typing on her phone furiously, her brow furrowed and her lips pressed into a thin line.

"What's the matter?" I asked, Emma sighed and put her phone in her pink jacket's pocket.

"It's Mom, she will bring her boyfriend over for dinner" Emma muttered, I was actually surprised that Emma's mother has already gotten a boyfriend after her father's death, since Mrs. Taylor always claimed she was so in love with her previous husband that she won't be able to find anyone better than him, I was even more surprised at the fact that Emma just told me about her mother's boyfriend, because she rarely talks about her family, specifically her mother's boyfriends.

Emma was sometimes secretive about her emotions and feelings, making me and Rachel worry about her a lot. But that was just the way she was, so all we had to do was figure out her feelings beforehand.

"Well...I know you're sad that your mother has another man in her life." I say as I bite my lip, kind of worried Emma might think I'm interfering too much in her mother's life "But you know she has the right to be happy again."

"It's not that I don't want her to have a boyfriend, I'm not a teenager you know" Emma said, staring at her pink fingernails.

"Then, what are you worried about? She has a boyfriend. She's happy." I declared, my eyes following her hands which are now in her hair adjusting her blonde locks, then I realized she's wearing pink from head to toe today.

"All the guys she has ever been with are all bunch of assholes, honestly I'm worried about her." Emma admitted, biting her pink lower lip.

"Have you met this one?" I asked.

"Not really." She mumbled, I sighed and checked the time, there's only five minutes left till our next class, but I had to slow down once in a while so that Emma could catch up to me.

Why on earth hell is she wearing heels, if she can't walk in them?

"Don't judge him quickly" I said.

Emma rolled her eyes, "I'm hundred percent sure he's like the rest of her exes!" Emma said disgustingly, I knew persuading her to have a dinner with her mother's new boyfriend will be hard and since (as you can already guess) I'm a very good friend I can't let my friend be unhappy, even for a minute.

"Let's have a sleepover tonight." I changed the subject, making Emma grin and giggle.

"Really?" She asked, still giggling and holding my hands with her own soft ones. It’s been a while since we had a sleepover, Emma and Rachel love to cover my face with mud mask.

"Yeah, I'll just call Rachel to let her know.” I said.

I pulled out my phone from my bag and dialed Rachel's number, she answered after just two rings, which is so typical of her.

"Helloooo, Miss. King, wait- actually you're the queen, well hello Miss. Queen, what can I do for you?" Rachel begun. Since my surname is King, Rachel calls me Jessie Queen and not Jessie King.

"Hey, Rachel! I was wondering if you're free tonight, Emma wants to come over... for a sleepover" I say.

"Oh. That's too bad, I can't I'm sorry!" Rachel said, I frowned and stared at my phone's screen, is this Rachel saying no to a sleepover? Did she actually refuse to get away from studying?

"Why?" I asked.

"I have many reports and seminars and homework and-"

"Rachel, can you speak quickly please? We only have a few minutes"

"Oh. Sorry. Well I'm super busy, I have many reports, hopefully next week?"

"Yeah sure, next week"

"Kiss Emma for me"

"I will"

I hung up and sighed, Emma looked a little bit sad, she had probably heard our conversation, I felt bad for her because a sleepover meant she and Rachel exchanging the newest fashion trends and news, but there was nothing I could do about it.

"I'm sorry, Rachel's busy." I told her anyways.

"It's alright, I'll just go and meet this guy, hopefully he's different than the rest." Emma said, with a fake smile playing on her lips but I know deep down she felt hurt and wanted to find any excuse just to not meet that guy, well we have our own reports too. But I wanted her to be fine before we start with the Pride and Prejudice report.

I told Emma some of my own boring old jokes on the way to class but she laughed anyways, which was something I was thankful for.

I was imitating one of our professors, and she was laughing hard.

"You know, Miss Price, twirls too much whenever she buys a new skirt. " I said. Emma laughed and begged me to show her how she was acting. I stopped walking in order to show her, I inhaled and got prepared to twirl in my jeans, but just when I twirled I lost balance and nearly fell on the ground.

I shut my eyes prepared for the pain of the hard ground, but when I opened them I found myself staring at a pair of brown eyes.

"Are you okay?" A guy with a husky voice asked, it took only a few seconds for me to register what had happened; I was about to fall and this was my hero. Yep. It has to be that.

"I'm.. fine." I muttered, the guy pulled me up and got a little bit away from me, "Thank you"

"You're welcome." The guy replied, smiling politely, making my heart skip a beat, I mentally told my stupid heart to calm down.

"I'm Samuel Davies by the way, just call me Sam." The guy said and held out his hand for me to shake, they shake hands with Emma also and I could feel her staring at me all the while, well she's my best friend, I'm sure she knows I find him handsome, that's all.

"I'm Jessica King, and this is Emma Taylor." I pointed at my best friend, who was blushing crimson red.

"Nice to meet you girls." Sam said looking at both of us with a polite yet cute smile.

"I haven't seen you before, are you two new?" Sam asked..

"We're sophomores actually…" Emma replied.

"Ah sophomores. I'm a junior" Sam said and winked at me. I swallowed the lump in my throat and tried to smile back at him.

"It was really nice to get to know you ladies." Sam said, as he stares at his watch on his wrist, "But I have to go now I'm late to class."

"Sure." Emma said, Sam smiled politely at us and retreated down the hall, he turned around one more time and waved at us. We both waved and smile like two crazy maniacs.

"Please don't tell me you're having another crush…" Emma said when Sam disappeared, I bit my lip from nervousness, I felt offended.

"Of course not." I said, my voice sounding normal and strong (totally unlike how I was feeling) , which was something I was thankful for.

"Good." Emma said and smiled at me.

I tried to keep myself busy with the remaining lectures and I tried to entertain Emma all the time, so that I forget about my encounter with Sam. It was actually working and somewhere at the back of my mind, I knew I had forgotten about something, but I didn't know what it was.

The rest of the day me and Emma were in the library, I read a few pages of Pride and Prejudice for her.
