Chapter 2: Pretermitting History

"Sir Hector, don't you think you made the story overdramatic especially with you being one of the characters?" the young twenty-four year old boy wearing golden collared shirt with chinos says as he is reading the draft copy of the book that his friend Hector wrote entitled the Past of the Agrabash. He was the old knight commander of the kingdom who is known to have a good reputation but seems to have secrets of his own for his career gradually changed decades ago from being a master at combat and swords fighting to becoming the head librarian of the kingdom's library. With the prince of Agrabash being a book reader himself, it wasn't far for them to become close friends as he was always there.

A smirk forms on Hector's lips which he accompanies with a hair flick and a hand gesture that are both evidently significant to ensure his cocky attitude. "Certainly not Harold! Everyone needs a character like me - handsome, charismatic and honorable!"

The prince chuckles. "You were always quite a silly one, Sir Hector. Do you not like being called a Lord? You were once a monarch of this kingdom."

Hector laughs. "I once may be a knight commander but I wasn't rich, I was pretty lucky to have both a son of a duke and king as my best friends!"

"My father?" he asks that made Hector startle.

Hector diverts his eyes to the side, glooming the atmosphere between him and the prince. "Ah, your father... yes, your father was quite a known man back in the days. However, I am afraid we can't divulge the past for it is against the rules of the kingdom. Every history book is burnt and most people who utters about it is hereby drawn to a punishment to shut them forever, you don't want me out of here right Harold?"

Ever since Harold was born, one major rule of Agrabash was to focus on the present and not the past therefore every book, copy or platform was burnt and ceased into existence. If any one had a copy or were to talk about it could result into death. Few citizens have gone against this and faced the worst. Harold used to be told as young to never believe in anything besides his father and mother and not by those outside for they create the most vicious and ruthless stories to destroy them but the question is why was the king so harsh towards this? What was out there that he shouldn't know? What did the past have against him? He seemed to know nothing about his ancestors and had little knowledge about Agrabash that intrigued him more. He loves his parents but there was something odd with how they run the kingdom and try to hide the events of the past - it feels wrong, almost as if there was something missing.

"But why exactly? Come on, I am turning king next year and you haven't even told me about your past!" Harold sits down in front of him and slumps to the side of the chair, arching his back in an upset position in order to convince Hector to talk about the past but Hector laughs and shakes his head.

"Rules are rules, Your Highness, besides don't worry, I know you are different from them that's why I am here because someone told me that I should act responsibly." he answers with a joyful spirit but his eyes spoke differently with them diverted below and hands stopping from moving, he looked so heartbroken and sorrowful. It seemed like that person who told him that really meant something to his heart, the prince thought as he looked at Hector spacing out and remembering something as a small smile comes across his face. Hector never got married so he has been alone all his life. For years, he has been writing and staying in this library even when Harold wasn't even born.

"Huh? What do you mean by different from them?"

Hector snaps out and is startled with Harold's question. "Huh? I me-"

"He means you should go to your mother and get ready for this evening where three beautiful ladies of three different households are coming to meet you and try to win you heart for engagement." the doors of the library open widely as the king enters wearing a well-embellished tunic with gold-work thread as a basic dress. His green eyes and his brownish blonde hair both complimented the golden crown that was scintillating on top of his head.

Both the prince and Hector were surprised to see the king here. His days were mostly filled with meetings and events to attend and people to meet. He was an extremely busy person. Every higher up official or monarch from a different country always finds it a goal to be able to come across the king. An opportunity to see or converse with him is impossible with the multiple things he has to handle and be in presence of that’s why seeing him right now with naked eyes seemed like a miracle.

"Father, Your Highness, what brings you here? Don't you have a meeting with Lord Lordinsel?" says Harold.

The king smiles widely at the sight of his son. He always thought of the prince as his descendant and carrier of his glory and honor especially that Harold resembled his appearance and talents. Harold was his pride.

Hector narrows his eyes to the king's direction where he rolls his eyes to the sight he was seeing. He wasn't exactly fonded with the king though he clearly has no choice since he was working in the kingdom. He disagrees with everyone that is saying about how similar both the king and the crowned prince Harold are. The latter was better, brighter and even more varied in his talents and knowledge unlike the current king that gradually focused more on fighting and combat. Harold was born to be kind and understanding rather than tough and aggressive. Hector can't understand how people can't see that - Harold is different and he truly believed that.

"I met some wonderful woman who are delighted to marry you. Your mother seems annoyed that you haven't chosen anyone yet, she really wants a daughter." the king replies.

"Why don't you give her one?" Hector jokes.

Harold laughs and the king looks at him, not surprised with the personality Hector has. The king ignores him and proceeds to talking. "I know you are waiting patiently for someone but two years of not seeing her, has your love not fade?"

Hearing those words from his father, made Harold remember the day where the sun's beaming rays lighten the world around him as the brown hair of a young girl, riding a horse comes towards him with a blank expression on her face. Harold thought she was weird but as she drew nearer, it seemed like he saw someone even more beautiful than the flowers in their garden or the jewelry his mom showed off the other day. He remembers her eyes, full of hope and then the image of her smiling comes that makes Harold smile as well.

"Not a bit, remembering her smile makes it seem impossible for me to not love her. I actually fall in love with her more everyday." the prince says while continuously remembering the woman of his dreams, smiling and talking in front of him.

The king, Havier sighs as he looks at his son hopelessly going head over heels with a woman far away from him. He then goes nearer to his son, holding0 his shoulder while patting it softly to show that he genuinely respects his decision. This startles Harold for a bit but also warms his heart.

"If that's what you want to do, I'll support you just don't close your doors for the woman who are interested. You don't know what may happen maybe you might find someone you love between these girls or that there will be a change of heart for you. I am not saying to not fight for Renessmae but be careful, don't just commit yourself to someone who isn't willing to commit or love you."

"Such a drama queen for a king." Hector whispers but can be heard by everyone that makes Harold chuckle softly.

"Of course Dad but I will always fight for Jo, I love her that much."

Hector rolls his eyes for the second time. The crowned prince's answer made him feel butterflies in his stomach but also at the same time disgust all because his bitterness with love was formed after deciding not to marry or have kids with any woman of the court. Havier and Harold talk a little bit more but Avery, the personal secretary of the queen calls for Harold's presence for the nobilities of houses and kingdoms have arrived to meet and know better of the prince.

"Your mother is so eager, she even had her own secretary call you. Go along now boy and enjoy!" the king pats his back for the last time and the prince smiles and bids his farewells to both his father and Hector as he walked out through the door. Hector goes back to his table where he works at and grabs a pen to continue writing his story. The king looks at him, sternly which caused his goofy persona to fade in an instance.

"I won't lie to you, if it weren't for Harold, we wouldn't be conversing right now." Hector says as he scribbled words to the paper, not even taking on look at the king after Harold leaving.

"I am thankful for that kid for existing, it would be a shame to not hear from you especially of the things we've been together." Havier smirks.

Hector grinds his teeth together and holds tightly to the pen, he was holding a heavy feeling inside of him but he is trying his best not to burst out the emotions he is feeling to the man in front of him, the man he loathed so much. "I'd appreciate if you would leave me alone, Your Highness." Hector emphasized.

The king smirked. "Just so you know, we had a deal. I hope you don't forget. Even if my son is on the throne, I am still watching your every move, Hector, every single move. Don't try me. You know what I can do."

Hector grinds his teeth harder, trying to bold back the boiling blood that was rushing within him from the crippling emotion of hatred.

"I exactly know what you can do, you don't have to remind me."

The king then smiles in front of Hector for the last time which he ignores. Feeling satisfied, the king walks straight towards the door. And as soon as he walks out of the library, Hector looks up with vengeance in his eyes for never in his life has he felt so fucking stupid, helpless and trapped.

"Tsk, acting so tough and manly. Lucky for him if I weren't too nice, I could've killed him." Hector laughs, grinning to himself.
